Indoor Air Quality:

The term ‘sick building syndrome’ has been coined to describe effects such as headaches, eye irritation and general discomfort which are caused by potentially hazardous, or simply nuisance, airborne particulate matter and vapors. The purpose of IAQ testing is to identify and ultimately control these materials in a manner that is practical and cost effective for our clients.

AIR CONTAMINATE SURVEYS

During the air contaminate survey, Eisenbach & Ruhnke Engineering, P.C. personnel seek to identify existing or potential problems impacting air quality. A variety of screening methods are used during this phase, including real time meters, electronic microscopy and settled dust analysis. Electron microscopy can identify the presence of organic particulates, fibers and heavy metals such as lead. Settled dust analysis can identify the presence of mold spores, pollen, lead and other heavy metals, as well as fibrous materials such as asbestos, fiberglass and refractory ceramic fibers.

Survey information is then used to determine the source of the problem and design solutions for reducing or eliminating occupant exposure.

SPECIALIZED HOSPITAL INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE SURVEYS

Hospital patient populations are more sensitive to pollutants than the general population due to their compromised health status. Simple activities such as construction or remodeling in and around health care facilities can create airborne spore concentrations, which have the potential to produce serious health effects. Specialized indoor air quality surveys can target certain pollutants such as Aspergillus mold species (which have historically caused problems in patient populations), determine their source, and serve as a basis for design solutions to eliminate patient exposure.
